While there aren’t as many options available as some of the other competitors, this software is still worth taking a look at if you are planning on backing any of your DVDs up.

Be sure not to confuse X Studios CloneDVD with a similar product called Slysoft (which ranks in the top ten).  While these two applications are a lot alike and look just about the same, they are still two different software products made by different companies.

We are not positive who copied who, and it sure would be nice if marketing companies would name their products a tad more creatively. CloneDVD of X Studios is a beneficial software package and is fully functional in creating backups of your DVDs in high quality format.

XStudios Clone DVD is able to make a condensed and dual layered backup onto a regular standard DVDR without a lot of quality being lost.  Many people find this quite useful when they do not have a dual layer type of DVD burner on their computer.

Many of the movies produced today do come on dual layered discs.  On CloneDVD, there is a copying option that allows you to pick which parts you want to implement from the DVD.

On the other hand, Clone DVD by XStudios is not able to produce copies of HD formatted movies that several other competitors are able to do.

On a positive note, unlike many other products that rate in the top ten bracket, you do not need to download any other extra tools in order to duplicate DVDs which are protected.

CloneDVD is able to remove any region coding or protection coding while also producing a quality backup which will play on your DVD player.  This feature works nicely and X Studios does provide updates on a regularly basis when there are other copying protection methods which may arise.

One of the other unique features of CloneDVD is how you are able to convert DVD movies into formats that are compatible with portable video players.

It’s a simple process and has results of the movie looking wonderful on even an IPod screen.  The main product of CloneDVD of XStudios contains this feature.

Many other companies do not offer this which means you have to buy the add on should you wish to be successful in creating mobile type movies.

If you like a user interface that is more on the intuitive side, CloneDVD has what you need.  Some beginners may be a bit overwhelmed with the settings on the main menu.

All of these settings do not necessarily need to be bothered with and we do see how a wizard interface would have been more useful when it comes to this aspect.  The one click and copy option does simplify using CloneDVD some.

In summary, X Studios CloneDVD is a high quality product and  is very beneficial in the copying of DVDs.  While it doesn’t contain all of the options of some of the other products, it does provide the user with the ability to use it as a portable device for compatible movies. All in all, X Studios CloneDVD deserves a chance.

If you are interested in a simple DVD copying program, DVD neXT Copy is designed with keeping the user’s needs in mind.  When you have DVDneXT functioning correctly, your DVD copies are produced with high quality results.

We evaluated the Xpress version of this program because the features are quite similar with the price being lower.  Upon our review, we did see that DVD neXT Copy offers a Standard and a Pro version.

Within the Pro version you will find the capabilities of having your DVD movies converted to iPod, PSP and Zune.  Keep in mind that DVD neXT copy does not convert to that of generic devices or other file types.

You can read up on DVD neXT copy if you would like more information in that area. As a package deal, DVD neXT Copy contains all of the unique features you would expect from most standard types of DVD copying software packages.

Along with the many other options available, DVD neXT Copy also has the capability of removing region codes and restoring scratched and defective DVDs without command.

Not to mention, DVD neXT Copy is also able to burn dual layered DVD-9′s should your burner support the media necessary for this process.

On the next version that will be created of DVD neXT Copy, we hope the version will also offer the ability to be able to copy to episodic discs while allowing the user to the specify the particular episodes he or she would like to keep.

It would be nice, as well, to envision DVD neXT Copy having the capability of being able to customize copies with special bonus features.

Keep in mind that DVD neXt Copy doesn’t contain a CSS decryptor.  In order to have this feature, you have to download this from a particular third party program in order to be able to backup discs which are copyrighted.

DVD neXt Copy is very simple to use. Each feature is labeled in a way that is easy to interpret.  You only have to choose the option of keeping the entire disc or just copying the main movie.  Simple pick your target and source and then begin your copying process.

One of the more difficult aspects of DVD neXt Copy is the source isn’t always named correctly.  When DVDs are changed and “refresh” was selected, the source name didn’t change with it.  Despite this small technicality, the source names still end up having a good result.

When DVD neXT Copy was used to burn several different movies, many times we found that the movies were of high quality.  In comparison of the original and the copy, there were noticeable changes present.

You shouldn’t launch the DVD neXT Copy without a DVD present in the drive as usually the software will stop responding without warning.  This also happens if you attempt to copy an encrypted DVD and you don’t have your external decryptor being started beforehand.

To summarize our review, we have found that DVD neXt COPY is simple to operate and does produce high quality copies.

DVDneXTtCOPY Inc. does produce many other programs compatible with the DVD neXT Copy version.  There is a standard version available which has the capabilities of building custom tracks and allowing you view the titles while supporting 15 different languages, at the same time!

If you would to have the ability to duplicate your DVDs onto your PSP, Zune, or Ipod, you may want to consider the Pro version of DVD neXT Copy.

One of main the features that stands out in DVD Cloner 7 is its successful ability in circumventing the built in DVD encryption codes.

In comparison with ARccOS and CSS, DVD Cloner is quite proficient in its ability to allow you to copy any DVD available on today’s market.

Many DVD copying software programs do not come equipped with this ability. One of the newer features that is included with the DVD Cloner 7 is its ability to be able to take two separate DVD movies (typically compressed to a DVD-5 standard) and then put these onto a DVD-9.

With this special feature, you can now have your most favorite movie along with its sequels on one DVD.  Another unique feature is you can also make the decision on the amount of copies you wish to make at one time.

Before you even begin your copying process, you can opt to make a dozen or so copies, if you wish.  Each time a new disc has to be inserted, the software will give you a prompt to insert new CD into your CD burner.  This feature was present on the DVD Cloner 5 and thus carried over.

DVD Cloner 7 will let you successfully shrink a full-length DVD (typically a DVD-9) into a 4.5GB DVD-R (also known as a DVD-5).  You can also customize your copies by using the “Movie Customization” button.

This is where you can copy all of the bonus footage, audio, language, subtitles and menus.  The custom mode of DVD Cloner 7 allows you to see how much available space you have on your DVD.

You also can adjust your compression rate of the copy of your DVD.  By utilizing the advanced set up feature, you can take advantage of adjusting the compression rate of bonus features.

Most of the time, you will find that the higher compression is usually the default when it comes to additional chapters of maintaining the integrity of your main movie files.

DVD Cloner 7 has a feature that supports the copying to a dual layered DVD-R (also known as DVD-9) by producing a direct 1 to 1 ratio copy.  With this feature, you don’t have to worry about compressing anything.

Keep in mind, you have to have a DVD burner that is compatible for this to work. On the other hand, if your DVD burner isn’t compatible in burning the dual layered DVD-9, there are two other options available as well.

One of the options of making a high quality copy is to choose the option of “Movie Only.  By selecting this option, the extra bonus menu and footage will be eliminated.

This allows less compression to be necessary.   You can also split your whole DVD into two different DVD-5 discs without a loss in your quality. DVD Cloner 6 is also equipped with the capability of allowing you to copy onto your hard drive.

This is a very useful and energy saving attribute for most any laptop.  If you want to burn any DVD from any file you have saved on your computer’s hard drive, always be sure to have your files included within the original ISO’s you ripped or make sure they are in the Neros NRG format.

If any movie has been encoded into a MPEG-2 format, DVD Cloner 7 will not be able to read it. One of the best features of DVD Cloner 7 is its ability in being able to recover your damaged DVDs.

DVD Cloner is able to recover any damaged data such as a scratch or a bad sector and then restore that data onto your burned copy.  This makes the copy much better than that of the original.

There are a few other additional pieces of software included with each DVD Cloner 7 package.  With the DVD Cloner 7, you will be able to download file converters.

Ripped DVD files can be converted into SVC, MPEG or AVI files.  You can access these downloads within the DVD Cloners main page.

Clone DVD has an immense amount of very useful features and comes complete with a very simple to use wizard interface.  Even novices can easily copy their DVDs without any problems.  Clone DVD is designed extremely well and is easy to use.

Before moving on to all of the many benefits of Slysoft Clone DVD, it is important that we also mention that there is a small downside.

Keeping in mind how well made Slysoft Clone is, in order for this application to be useable, you have to buy AnyDVD.  AnyDVD is a product add-on that is also manufactured by Slysoft.

This program allows you to back up your protected DVDs.  While there are many other alternatives in buying AnyDVD, Slysoft highly recommends only using AnyDVD.

While we aren’t quite sure why Slysoft recommends this, we can only assume it is either for legal issues or possibly to get a few extra dollars from customers.

We feel that AnyDVD should be included with the Clone DVD package in order for customers to save extra money.  There are a few other DVD software packages that do work quite similarly.

Even though software for DVD copying doesn’t encrypt DVD due to legal reasons, they will usually offer you a special add on feature that you can easily install to be able to duplicate the encrypted DVDs.  Best of all, the add on is almost always free.

It’s also important for you to know that Clone DVD is a well made product and is so simple to use.  After you buy AnyDVD, you will then be able to start copying almost any DVD you wish.

Keep in mind that there is also a High Definition version that has the capabilities of backing up HD movies.  With the HD version, you can alter the quality and compression settings.

While you aren’t able to merge and split your DVDs, Slysoft Clone DVD is still very beneficial when you aren’t 100% sure of which settings to change.

There is a visual indicator provided to show you how each and every setting will affect the size and quality of the final DVD copy.  Many intermediates who have a feel for what they are doing will have a great appreciation for this feature even if they aren’t video compression experts.

If you aren’t interest in all of the details that video compression relates to, you will inevitably find Clone DVD to be very beneficial.  There is a tool called the “Filmstrip Assistant’ that is very helpful in guiding you through all of the pertinent settings to create an excellent copy.

More often than not, you can just follow the default choices and still get good results with your backup.  The remainder of the Slysoft interface is equally simple to utilize.

The design exudes how much work has actually gone into the interface.  If you do get stuck and are unsure of what to do, Slysoft does provide video tutorials to teach you how to complete basic backup of DVDs.  You can find these tutorials on the Slysoft website.

You will find Slysoft CloneDVD to be a very beneficial piece of software.  Just be aware that you will need to spend a little extra cash on AnyDVD in conjunction with Slysoft Clone DVD.

There are renewal fees each year, unless you would rather purchase your license for multiple years.  Slysoft CloneDVD remains the best choice for beginners as well as experts.
